The FEI is looking for an Executive Director, Commercial, Marketing and Communications with 100% rate of activity. The position is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and is available as of 1 June 2025.
Executive Director, Commercial, Marketing and Communications
Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the FEI Secretary General, the Executive Director of Commercial, Marketing and Communications will drive the long-term strategy for marketing, communications, and revenue generation, ensuring alignment with FEI’s strategic objectives and commercial targets. This role will oversee global marketing initiatives, sponsorship activations, digital strategy, and media rights, while fostering brand consistency and enhancing the visibility of FEI’s events and corporate identity. Additionally, the position will provide executive leadership in stakeholder engagement, crisis communication, and the development of innovative revenue streams, promoting collaboration and innovation across marketing, communications and commercial teams to ensure alignment and achieve organisational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term marketing and communications strategy and the commercial strategy across sponsorship and media, ensuring alignment with FEI’s strategic objectives and overseeing the achievement of all commercial targets;
- Identify and lead the development of new, high-impact revenue streams, including innovative digital campaigns, premium sponsorship packages, and merchandise initiatives, ensuring sustained financial growth;
- Provide executive leadership for the development and execution of global marketing strategies, ensuring brand consistency across all channels, and elevating the visibility of FEI’s events, products, and corporate identity;
- Lead effective communication strategies, internally and externally, including messaging for key FEI executives, crisis communication management, and public relations efforts, ensuring proactive media engagement and stakeholder alignment.
- Lead the strategy and oversight of sponsorship activations and corporate partnerships, ensuring high-value sponsor relationships, contract fulfilment, and maximised return on investment for all stakeholders;
- Guide the implementation of a comprehensive digital strategy and media rights framework, increasing global engagement, and optimising content distribution across multiple platforms to maximize media value;
- Lead and strengthen the cooperation and communication between the Directors and their teams to optimise the structure of the department and position successfully to achieve deliverables;
- Oversee budget allocation and resource management for commercial, marketing, and communication functions, while fostering a high-performance, cross-functional leadership team that drives collaboration and innovation across the organisation;
- Oversee the overall management of the FEI Media House; and
- Oversee FEI TV/ClipMyHorse’s initiatives and be the main point of contact.
Position Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field; an MBA or Master’s degree is highly desirable;
- Proven track record of 10+ years in senior leadership roles within commercial, marketing, and/or communications, preferably within the sports industry;
- Demonstrated ability to develop long-term strategies aligned with organisational goals across commercial, marketing and communication functions;
- Strong expertise in revenue generation, sponsorship acquisition, partnership management and driving financial growth;
- Proven success in developing and implementing marketing strategies, brand management, digital marketing, and fan engagement initiatives;
- Understanding of digital platforms, social media strategies, and emerging technologies to enhance brand visibility and engagement;
- Expertise in overseeing both internal and external communication strategies, corporate communications and media relations;
- Experience in handling public relations challenges, managing brand crises while maintaining a positive organisational reputation;
- Budget management skills to optimise marketing and communication spend while delivering measurable ROI;
- Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in other languages is a plus; and
- Flexibility for some travel.
